Raw emotion and goosebumps. (and flower crowns!)

These are the things I would use to describe my experience seeing Mumford & Sons live for the first time. If it is possible to sound better than the album, Mumford has found the secret. As soon as I heard the first chords of Marcus Mumford's acoustic guitar, I got the goosebumps and they went away until I was laying in my bed later that night listening to Winter Winds on my iPod.

Mumford: you exceeded every expectation I have ever had of you and only wished you played every one of your songs. Thank you for randomly coming into Pittsburgh and making me a super fan of yours. Cheers!

mumford day

Today is Thursday. And it is not any other normal Thursday. This Thursday, today, is Mumford Day. This means later this evening, I will be with my very best friends seeing one of my favorite bands to celebrate the end of summer. It is the first time Mumford & Sons is coming to Pittsburgh and I cannot contain my excitement. I plan on wearing a dress and wearing a flower crown as I hum The Lumineers song Flowers in Her Hair.

vacation

The family and I ventured to Virginia Beach for the week. We spent the week with our toes in the sand, an occasional drink, and a lot of time was spent tossing around the football. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I even went rollerblading.

daily jam-mumford & sons

I appreciate when a celebrity can make fun of themselves. It makes them seem human and relatable because it proves they kind of pay attention to what the world is saying about them/making them out to be. Take Mumford & Sons for example. The have a very specific look and feel to their music, so much so that they get spoofed on SNL all of the time.

Well this time, the tables have turned. This time, these English folk rockers humbly spoofed themselves in their new video for their song 'Hopeless Wanderer' with the help from some funny guys Ed Helms, Jason Sudeikis, Will Forte, and Jason Bateman. Watch and laugh your way through this (I know, yet another) Mumford & Son video.

I still think Ed Helms should have been playing the banjo the whole time, but hey that's just me.

daily jam-robin thicke

Evvverybody Get UP! The song Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke has become the song of the summer for sure. Dispite it's lyrical controversies, I can't stop jamming to it. Every time it comes on the radio, it gets turned up loud and the windows get rolled down. It is such a fun song. What's great, is that Robin Thicke obviously has fun with this song because of what he has allowed late night shows to do with it. Jimmy Kimmel and his sidekick Guillermo "taped" a music video with Robin and Pharrell and it is awesomely funny.

Another really cool feature that was done with this song was by The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon. The Roots, Jimmy, and Robin played Blurred Lines on elementary school instruments. It's fantastic that they can replicate the sound of the song using just those simple instruments. Musicians, man.

I really hope Mr. Thicke has more gems like this on his album because I really do enjoy this song. Remember to  turn it to the left when listening with your headphones, save your hair cells, save your hearing!

twelve

The Mad Man With A Box. Who is going to be Number Twelve?!?!? It has been announced that on Sunday, August 4th, the actor who will be playing the new Doctor will be announced. I want to know now, but then again, I want to be surprised. Twitter has gone nuts trying to figure out who will be the next Doctor. I honestly have no idea and am eagerly awaiting the next regeneration. I will be very sad to see Matt Smith leave the show but I am glad that the Moff keeps the show fresh.

I can't wait for Sunday and will be glued to the Doctor WHO Tumblr page as well as the BBC website for any indication of more details.

daily jam-ratatat

Today's daily jam is a chill little gem that I always find myself listening to when I need a zen moment. Loud Pipes by Ratatat has beats that can be described as hypnotic and comforting at the same time. I love the absence of words in this as well. Perfect for this gloomy first day of August.

august

Where the hell did this summer go? I can't believe today is the first day of August. Today, I woke up to a pretty crappy, rainy day here in Pittsburgh, that it doesn't even feel like summer. I finally finished my classes for the summer and have about 2 weeks off before the next round of classes begin.

August for me includes a family vacation, some half marathon training, and a Mumford & Sons concert, and the start of some more classes. It's not much to look forward to but I really can't wait to have my feet in the sand and a book in my hand.
