surprise in scranton

Surprises are the best. Yesterday, my neighbor Gabriella and I drove to Scranton, PA to surprise her sister T for her 21st birthday. It was a successful surprise. Last night we explored the Scranton night life at a couple of bars and introduced T to various types of delicious beers. A good time was had by all and thankfully no one over did it. Happy Birthday T, cheers to finally being 21!

*There were no sightings of Jim Halpert, sad sauce.

comic con

Comic Con is one of those things that is secretly really cool but not everyone pays attention to it. Don’t get me wrong, there is a fair share of cos-play involved and people who are self-proclaimed super nerds, nerd-ing out. But what is great, is the fandom (WHOVIANS!). The fans goes freaking nuts for the panels of their favorite shows. Plus this is the place where new trailers for movies come out, teasers for new seasons show up, and real life actors rub shoulders with each other and fans on the floor.

My friends Kait, Becky, Lauren, and I are seriously planning to go next year. Although this means I would potentially miss seeing Matt Smith as the Doctor but it WOULD mean that I could possibly see the panel of whomever is named the new doctor (!!!!). We have already discussed booking a hotel, things need to be planned far in advance.

But, from this years Con the world found out:

A new Catching Fire Trailer:

I am excited for this movie becuase it was my favorite book of the Hunger Games series. Jennifer Lawrence kills it as Katniss. Plus, with the movie coming out, means more hilarious interviews for everyone.

The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who: David Tennant and Rose Tyler, along with others, are coming back for the episode. I cannot wait, they showed a trailer at the panel but The Moff threathened everyone that if it showed up online, there would be no more teaser trailers and those there listened. Plus, Karen Gillan shaved her head for an upcoming role, Oh Amelia, what have you done?! This was also the last Comic Con for Matt Smith as The Doctor, sad face, but there will be new exciting things in the future.

And Sherlock! Man, can The Moff write. How did Sherlock survive that fall, I NEED to know right now. Now, dammit! I guess I can wait a couple more months but I know it's going to be amazing.

A Breaking Bad Trailer:

I don't know how my I’m going to act these next two months, my emotions are going to be alllllll over the place since this is the last season for this brilliant show. I will be sad to watch it go.

daily jam-mumford & sons

Today's daily jam is Mumford & Sons' song Babel. I chose this song for today because last night I scored a freaking ticket to their show at the end of August. Serious hard ticket to get since they have a lottery system. I can't even begin to thank my friend Ang enough and am so looking forward to seeing Marcus Mumford going nuts while playing the guitar. Ahh soo excited!! Looks like we will have another concert series post in the future.

garden party

I am always on the look out for something fun to do with friends besides hitting up the bars. But not completely taking away the aspect of an alcohol induced good time. When I searched the inter webs, I found exactly what I was looking for: a garden party at Phipps Conservatory.

Phipps Conservatory hosts a monthly garden party that boasts a DJ, food and drinks, and a lot of fun for those of us who are 21 and older. My good friends N&L planned the night out and invited all sorts of their friends and only Sarah and I ended up going. We started the night off with dinner at Salt of the Earth. I have been DYING to go there and it did NOT disappoint. The food was beyond delicious and the communal seating made for perfect conversations with the party next to you. The atmosphere is very cool, I felt like I was in New York, very industrial with steel beams, a giant chalkboard wall for the menu, and communal tables. I cannot wait to go back for the late night menu which included Korean Fried Chicken.

After we stuffed our faces, we made our way over to Phipps. I always forget about Phipps and all of its beauty. In college, with Pitt being within walking distance to Phipps, and getting free admission because I went to Pitt (score!), I was there ALLLL the time. The perfect place for a date, or if you need inspiration for your art class, or you are sick of the all of the other places you eat at, Phipps is where it's at.

We had a blast watching awkward people dance to terrible DJ music, drinking a little too much, and parading through the exhibits of all the gorgeous flora that Phipps has to offer. I will absolutely be coming back to another garden party!

currently obsessing over....

Recently, I have found myself coming home from work and doing the same things everyday. I tend to be a creature of habit and once I get into a rhythm, it cannot be stopped. I think this is why I enjoy binge watching episodes of TV series at a time. Lately my interests have taken me into various different directions.

Doctor WHO. Hello Sweetie...Spoilers...I can't get enough of it. The Moff has an unbelievable imagination and I can't get enough of it. I am re-watching season 6 and 7 because it is bloody brilliant. This time around, I am listening to corresponding podcasts, going down the rabbit hole of blog posts and British website summaries, and Reddit posts. I can't stop texting New Jersey brother asking him questions about his favorite monsters and who is scarier, the Weeping Angels or the Silence? (I say the Silence, he says the Weeping Angels). I freaked out when I went to a concert and the guitarist was wearing a Dalek shirt! My iPhone ringtone is now the sound of the TARDIS. At this point, I feel the need to put white tape across the middle of my glasses and participate in some cos-play #nerd.

Reading. When I am not watching Doctor WHO, I am reading. I like to binge watch TV and I also like to binge read books. Over the weekend, I met up with my friend Kait and she has been raving about The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones book series by Cassandra Clare. The book is being made into a movie that comes out in August but once again, I have a feeling the book is going to be better. I just started reading it and so far so good. Since I am so behind on my Good Reads goal of reading 50 books this year, I am excited to dive back into reading.

Podcasts. I could listen to Podcasts all day, everyday. The Nerdist, Doug Loves Movies, Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, and any Doctor Who podcast. I appreciate the intimate conversation that only podcasts get and just exploring and discovering new things, people, and ideas.

Vine. This app continuously amazes me. I use it purely when I go to concerts because I like to take videos but hate when said videos take up memory storage. Most people are making some ridiculous loops that are sort of funny but there are some amazing artists who are using this app as purely a creative outlet. Brandon Urie, Ian Padgham, and Chris Delia are my favorites Viners.

What are you guys obsessing over?

daily jam-panic! at the disco

Today's daily jam is Panic! at the Disco's song That Green Gentleman in honor of their new single coming out. Panic is one of those bands that have always been in my ears since high school, thru college, and now I can't wait to hear what they have planned for this upcoming album. Their sound is ever-evolving yet distinict to them at the same time. Plus, I am kind of obsessed with Brendon Urie's Vines, they are fantastic! Positive Hardcore Thursdays are my favorite haha. I can't wait for their new album!

4th of july

Happy Fourth of July friends! It's not my favorite holiday of the year but there ARE fireworks, so it all works out right?  I will be spending my day sleeping in, catching up on some reading for class, and binge watching The Newsroom (Aaron Sorkin is a god), and catching some fireworks. Enjoy!

Fireworks from The Point
